

Rajna Swaminathan
Professor Rajna Swaminathan is a distinguished member of the Department of Music at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, University of California-Irvine. With a PhD in Music from Harvard University, she has established herself as a prominent improviser, composer, and scholar. Her academic pursuits are deeply rooted in the intersections of queer theory, Black studies, and the musical practices of South Asian and African diasporas. Swaminathan is the visionary founder and leader of the ensemble RAJAS, which is dedicated to exploring new intercultural horizons through the art of improvisation.
