

Janice Firn
Professor Janice Firn is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she integrates diverse disciplines to study the complex intersections of clinical ethics, palliative care, and healthcare policy. With a robust background in these areas, she is dedicated to advancing the understanding and implementation of ethical practices in medical settings. Her research interests are broad and impactful, focusing on interprofessional education and collaboration, decision-making processes, and applied ethics. Professor Firn is particularly passionate about preventative ethics and the ethical issues that arise in intensive care units (ICUs). She employs qualitative methods to explore these topics, aiming to enhance clinician self-awareness and improve patient care through ethical decision-making frameworks. In addition to her teaching and research roles, Professor Firn serves as the Ethics Education Chief at the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine (CBSSM) and as a Clinical Ethicist at Michigan Medicine.
