Alex Springer is an esteemed assistant professor at the School of Theatre + Dance at the University of Florida, where he brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the academic community. He holds an M.F.A. in Choreography and Performance from Smith College and a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Michigan, showcasing a solid foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of dance. Springer's professional journey is marked by his dynamic performances with renowned companies and artists such as Doug Varone and Dancers, Alexandra Beller, Jeanine Durning, Adriane Fang, Angie Hauser, Heidi Henderson, Donnell Oakley, and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. His extensive performance experience enriches his teaching, offering students a direct link to the professional dance world. Since 2005, Alex has been collaborating with Xan Burley, a partnership that has resulted in innovative choreography for various platforms, including stage, camera, site-specific performances, and multimedia installations. This collaboration highlights his versatility and commitment to exploring new dimensions in dance and performance art. In addition to his choreographic endeavors, Springer is a talented video artist.
