

Jeffrey Christopher Smith
Jeffrey Christopher Smith has led transformative projects in the intersection of music and technology. As an industrial affiliate at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), Jeffrey has been instrumental in advancing research and education in this innovative field. He earned his PhD from CCRMA in 2013, following a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1989. Jeffrey's academic journey includes a significant tenure as a lecturer in Computer Science, where he taught the popular course CS 106X. His passion for music and technology further led him to become an Assistant Consulting Professor at CCRMA, where he taught Music 264, a course that explores the intricate relationship between music and computational methods. In addition to his teaching roles, Jeffrey established the Stanford Damp Archive, a pioneering initiative designed to support research in music performance practices. This archive has become a valuable resource for scholars and practitioners interested in the historical and technical aspects of music performance. Currently, Jeffrey co-founded and leads Smule, a company at the forefront of social music-making, as its CEO. Under his leadership, Smule has become a global platform that empowers millions of users to create and share music collaboratively. His work continues to inspire innovation at the nexus of music, technology, and community engagement.
