Dr. Z. John Lu is shaping the future of pharmaceutical economics and policy through his extensive research and leadership at the University of California-Los Angeles. As an expert in pharmaceutical economics, Dr. Lu directs the UCLA Seminar on Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy, where he fosters critical discussions and advancements in the field. His scholarly contributions include numerous publications in pharmaceutical economics, as well as co-authoring a significant policy book that has influenced both academic and industry perspectives. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Lu amassed two decades of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Notably, he spent 17 years at Amgen, where he led an interdisciplinary team focused on economic evaluation, drug value demonstration, and pricing strategies. This industry experience enriches his academic work, providing a practical foundation for his research and teaching. Currently, Dr. Lu holds a tenured associate professorship in economics at California State University, Channel Islands. His research interests lie at the intersection of pharmaceutical economics, drug pricing, and health economics, where he continues to contribute valuable insights and drive policy innovation.
