George C. Anderson
Dedicated to building bridges between disciplines in the realm of chemistry and oceanography, George C. Anderson is a distinguished faculty member at the Jacobs School of Engineering, University of California-San Diego. With a robust academic foundation, he holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Williams College, complemented by an M.S. in Chemistry and an M.A.T. from Johns Hopkins University. His educational journey has equipped him with a profound understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry. At UCSD, George has made significant contributions through his seagoing analytical work aboard research vessels, where he has applied his expertise in chemistry to real-world oceanographic studies. His analytical work for a geochemist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) further underscores his commitment to interdisciplinary research, bridging the gap between chemistry and geosciences. In addition to his research endeavors, George has demonstrated a strong dedication to education. He has served as a teaching assistant in two of the chemistry department's analytical chemistry classes, where he has shared his knowledge and passion for the subject with students. His role as an educator extends to co-teaching an SIO course with Professor Michael Mullin, titled "Physical, Chemical, and Biological Techniques in Oceanography," which highlights his ability to integrate diverse scientific disciplines into a cohesive learning experience. George C. Anderson's career at UCSD is marked by his commitment to fostering collaboration between chemistry and oceanography, and his work continues to inspire students and colleagues alike. His contributions to both research and education reflect his dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and nurturing the next generation of scientists.
