David P. Roy
Dr. David P. Roy applies his expertise to solve challenges in remote sensing and big satellite data processing. As the Director for the Center for Global Change and Earth Observations and a Professor of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University, he leads pioneering research efforts in understanding terrestrial global change. Dr. Roy's academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Geography from Cambridge University, UK, followed by significant research roles across Europe and the United States. His research interests are deeply rooted in the development and integration of advanced computing methods for processing satellite sensor data. Dr. Roy is particularly focused on mapping and characterizing land cover and land use changes, which are crucial for understanding the broader impacts of terrestrial global change. His work often involves the fusion of satellite sensor data to provide comprehensive insights into environmental transformations. Dr. Roy is actively involved in several high-profile projects with NASA and the US Geological Survey (USGS), where he contributes his expertise to address critical questions about land cover and land use change. His contributions to these projects are complemented by his membership in various NASA science teams, where he collaborates with other experts to advance the field of remote sensing. Through his work, Dr. Roy continues to push the boundaries of how big data and remote sensing can be used to address global environmental challenges.
