Thomas C. Voice
Dr. Thomas C. Voice is well-known for his pioneering work in the field of environmental engineering, particularly focusing on the fate and transport of chemical contaminants. As the Senior Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University, Dr. Voice has made significant contributions to understanding how pollutants interact with soils, sediments, and suspended solids. His academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he developed a strong foundation in environmental mass-transfer processes. Dr. Voice's research interests are diverse and encompass critical areas such as mass-transfer of chemical contaminants, pollutant-soil interactions, and sorption phenomena. His work is instrumental in advancing knowledge on environmental mass-transfer processes and the fate and transport of chemical contaminants. He has a particular interest in developing innovative water and waste treatment systems, especially those based on adsorption processes, which are crucial for mitigating environmental pollution. Beyond his research, Dr. Voice is actively involved in leadership roles that extend his impact beyond academia. He serves as the Associate Director of the Midwest Hazardous Substance Research Center, where he collaborates with experts to address regional environmental challenges. Additionally, he is the Director of the international project Training and Research in Environmental Health -- the Balkans, which focuses on enhancing environmental health research and training in the Balkan region. At Michigan State University, Dr. Voice also leads the Technical Outreach Services to Communities, a program dedicated to providing technical assistance and expertise to communities facing environmental issues. Through this initiative, he works closely with local stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions and improve community resilience to environmental hazards. Dr. Voice's dedication to environmental engineering and his leadership in various projects have earned him recognition as a thought leader in his field. His work continues to inspire students, researchers, and professionals who are committed to addressing the complex environmental challenges of our time.
