

Bentley Olive
Dr. Bentley Olive leads initiatives in legal education as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Law. With a robust foundation in both engineering and law, Dr. Olive brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to his teaching. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1997, which laid the groundwork for his subsequent legal studies. After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Olive pursued a Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His legal expertise is particularly focused on patent law, an area where his engineering background provides significant insight. Dr. Olive is dedicated to preparing future legal professionals for the complexities of patent prosecution, a critical aspect of intellectual property law. In his role at UNC School of Law, Dr. Olive is responsible for teaching the Patent Prosecution Seminar courses, which he has scheduled for the spring semesters of 2022 and 2024. His courses are designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge necessary for navigating the patent application process. Dr. Olive's commitment to education and his ability to bridge the gap between engineering and law make him a valuable asset to the UNC academic community.
