Susan Catchings

Dr. Susan Catchings is a distinguished Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Nursing. With a career deeply rooted in primary care, Dr. Catchings has amassed extensive experience in both pediatrics and family practice. Her dedication to patient education and the promotion of healthy living is evident in her professional journey and contributions to the field. After earning her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) degree from UNC-CH in 1993, Dr. Catchings co-owned a family practice, where she honed her skills in providing comprehensive care to diverse patient populations. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to join Avance Care, where she successfully opened and managed her own thriving practice, further solidifying her reputation as a leader in primary care. Dr. Catchings pursued further academic excellence by obtaining a Doctorate from Duke University. Her academic pursuits did not end there, as she also serves as adjunct faculty at Duke, contributing to the education and mentorship of future healthcare professionals. Her dual roles at both UNC and Duke highlight her commitment to advancing nursing education and practice. In addition to her domestic achievements, Dr. Catchings has actively participated in global health initiatives. She has embarked on mission trips to Bolivia and China, where she provided much-needed healthcare services and gained invaluable insights into international health challenges. Her commitment to global health is further demonstrated by her role in hosting visiting Chinese medical students, fostering cross-cultural exchange and learning.
