Karen Edwards
Karen Edwards has led transformative projects in the field of low-dimensional geometric topology, significantly contributing to the academic community with her extensive research and teaching experience. As an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Computer Science Department at Tufts University, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her students and colleagues alike. Karen earned her Ph.D. in low-dimensional geometric topology from the University of California, Berkeley, where she developed a deep understanding of the complexities and nuances of this specialized area of mathematics. With 26 years of teaching experience, Karen has had the privilege of educating students at a diverse range of institutions, including community colleges, state universities, and liberal arts colleges. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment, where students are encouraged to explore and challenge their understanding of complex mathematical concepts. Karen's research interests are deeply rooted in low-dimensional geometric topology, a field that explores the properties and structures of spaces that are one, two, or three dimensions. Her work in this area has been recognized for its innovative approach and has contributed to a greater understanding of the geometric and topological properties of these spaces. In addition to her academic pursuits, Karen is committed to mentoring the next generation of mathematicians and computer scientists. She actively participates in workshops and conferences, sharing her insights and experiences with both peers and students. Her dedication to education and research continues to inspire those around her, making her a valued member of the Tufts University community.
