

Carol Bascom-Slack
Professor Carol Bascom-Slack is a dedicated researcher examining pressing issues in education and biology at Tufts University School of Medicine. With a Ph.D. from Tufts University and a B.A. from the University of Kansas, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as a Research Assistant Professor. Her research primarily focuses on understanding faculty motivations and the barriers they face in adopting evidence-based teaching practices, aiming to enhance educational methodologies and outcomes. In addition to her work in education, Professor Bascom-Slack has made significant contributions to the field of microbiology. She developed an innovative course-based research program that actively involves undergraduates in investigating the environmental presence of antimicrobial-resistant microbes. This program has successfully engaged thousands of students, allowing them to contribute valuable data to this critical area of study. Her research interests also extend to the study of chromosome segregation, with a particular focus on conditions such as Down Syndrome. Through her work, she aims to deepen the understanding of genetic disorders and their implications. Prior to her current position, Professor Bascom-Slack spent 15 years teaching undergraduates at Yale University, where she honed her skills in both teaching and research.
