Bruce Stanton

Dr. Bruce Stanton is renowned for his innovative approaches in pulmonary physiology and lung disease research at the Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College. As a distinguished pulmonary physiologist, Dr. Stanton was honored with the prestigious Andrew C. Vail Memorial Professorship in July, recognizing his significant contributions to the field. His research primarily focuses on cystic fibrosis (CF), a complex genetic disease that predominantly affects the lungs. Dr. Stanton and his dedicated team have made groundbreaking advancements in the study of CF by developing a novel model of the human lung. This model has been instrumental in understanding the bacterial infections that commonly afflict CF patients. Through their research, they have identified a promising combination of an antibiotic and an iron-binding drug that shows efficacy in eradicating these harmful bacteria, offering hope for improved treatment options for CF patients. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Stanton serves as the director of Dartmouth's Lung Biology Center. Under his leadership, the center fosters collaboration among researchers from diverse fields, all united in their mission to advance the understanding and treatment of chronic lung diseases. His work not only contributes to the scientific community but also has a profound impact on the lives of individuals affected by lung diseases, making him a pivotal figure in pulmonary research.
