Professor Tristan Ivory is an Assistant Professor of International and Comparative Labor at the Industrial and Labor Relations School at Cornell University. His research is primarily centered on the geographic, social, and economic mobility of sub-Saharan African populations. With a keen interest in international migration and labor migration, Professor Ivory has dedicated significant efforts to understanding the dynamics of these communities, particularly in non-traditional destinations such as Japan. One of his notable research endeavors includes an in-depth study of sub-Saharan African migrants in Japan, where he examines their integration and adaptation processes. Currently, he is spearheading a multi-sited longitudinal interview project that tracks the economic and social trajectories of sub-Saharan middle-class high school and college students as they transition into their professional lives. This project aims to shed light on the challenges and opportunities faced by these young individuals in their pursuit of economic mobility. In addition to his work on sub-Saharan African migrants, Professor Ivory is actively engaged in a collaborative research project that explores the labor force participation of foreign-born women in Japan, Sweden, and the United States. This research seeks to understand the barriers and facilitators affecting these women's participation in the labor market, providing valuable insights into the intersection of gender, migration, and employment. Through his research, Professor Ivory contributes to a deeper understanding of international and comparative labor issues, with a particular focus on the experiences of foreign-born individuals and their social and economic mobility. His work not only enriches academic discourse but also informs policy discussions on migration and labor integration.
