Fostering collaboration across sectors to enhance the field of electrical engineering, Dr. Sheppard J. Salon is a Professor Emeritus of Electric Power Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Salon has made significant contributions to the understanding and development of electric machines and drives, electromagnetics, and numerical computing. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Science from Stony Brook University, followed by a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and culminating in a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Before his tenure at RPI, which began in 1978, Dr. Salon honed his skills and expertise during an eight-year stint at Westinghouse Electric Corporation. This industry experience provided him with a practical foundation that he has since built upon through his academic and research endeavors.
