Monisha Sharma

Dr. Monisha Sharma conducts research on global health interventions with a strong emphasis on mathematical modeling and cost-effectiveness analysis. As an Assistant Professor in Global Health and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at the University of Washington, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her field. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Epidemiology and an MSPH in Infectious Disease Epidemiology, which have equipped her with the skills necessary to tackle complex health challenges. Dr. Sharma's research is particularly focused on HIV/HPV co-infection, cervical cancer, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. She is dedicated to projecting the cost-effectiveness of cervical cancer prevention strategies, which is crucial for informing policy decisions and optimizing resource allocation in healthcare systems. Her work in this area aims to improve health outcomes for women globally, especially in low-resource settings. In addition to her work on cervical cancer, Dr. Sharma is actively involved in implementing Assisted Partner Notification services in Kenya. This initiative seeks to enhance HIV testing and linkage to care, thereby reducing transmission rates and improving the health of individuals living with HIV. Her efforts in this area demonstrate her commitment to translating research into practical interventions that have a tangible impact on communities. Dr. Sharma is also assessing the impact of scaling up viral load monitoring and community-based Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in sub-Saharan Africa. By evaluating these interventions, she aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for improving HIV prevention and treatment strategies in the region. Her work is instrumental in shaping policies that address the unique challenges faced by sub-Saharan African countries in combating the HIV epidemic. Throughout her career, Dr. Sharma has contributed significantly to the field of global health through her research and collaborations. Her expertise in mathematical modeling and economic evaluation has been pivotal in advancing our understanding of cost-effective health interventions. She continues to be a leading voice in the global health community, advocating for evidence-based approaches to improve health outcomes worldwide.
