Nils-Christian Detering

Professor Nils-Christian Detering is working to advance the understanding of complex mathematical frameworks through his research in probability theory, mathematical statistics, stochastic processes, and interacting particle systems. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he is dedicated to exploring the intricate dynamics of these mathematical phenomena and their applications. Professor Detering completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at ETH Zurich in 2016, where he developed a strong foundation in theoretical mathematics. His doctoral work laid the groundwork for his subsequent research endeavors, which have been characterized by a deep commitment to unraveling the complexities of stochastic processes and their implications in various fields. Following his doctoral studies, Professor Detering served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. During his time there, he collaborated with leading experts in the field, further honing his expertise and contributing to significant advancements in probability theory and related areas. His tenure at Berkeley was marked by a series of influential publications that have been widely recognized in the academic community. Since joining UCSB in 2018, Professor Detering has continued to push the boundaries of mathematical research. His work not only contributes to the theoretical understanding of stochastic processes but also has practical implications in areas such as finance, physics, and biology. Through his teaching and mentorship, he inspires the next generation of mathematicians and statisticians to pursue innovative research and tackle complex problems with rigor and creativity.
