

Min Jung Kim
Blending theory and practice to improve understanding of complex global issues, Min Jung Kim serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of International Affairs at the School of International Affairs, George Washington University. She is also the Associate Director of the MA program in Security Policy Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs. Her academic pursuits are deeply rooted in international security, territorial politics, state-building, civil war, and state-minority relations, reflecting her commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in global affairs today. Before joining the academic faculty, Professor Kim gained valuable experience at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC. In her role, she was instrumental in managing issues related to free trade, U.S.-Korea relations, and security affairs in Northeast Asia. This practical experience has enriched her academic work, providing her with a nuanced perspective on the interplay between diplomatic practice and theoretical frameworks. Professor Kim's educational background is equally impressive. She earned her Ph.D. in International Relations from American University, where her research focused on the dynamics of state-building and the complexities of state-minority relations. Her MA in Conflict Resolution from Georgetown University further equipped her with the skills to analyze and propose solutions to conflicts that arise in the international arena. Her research interests are diverse yet interconnected, encompassing state-building, state-minority relations, civil war, territorial politics, and international security. Through her work, she aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how states can navigate internal and external challenges to achieve stability and peace. In addition to her teaching and administrative responsibilities, Professor Kim is actively involved in research projects that explore the intricacies of territorial politics and the impact of civil wars on state structures. Her work is characterized by a commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and practical policy-making.
