Claudia Youakim
Innovating in the domain of gender studies and women's empowerment, Dr. Claudia Youakim serves as the Deputy Director of Knowledge Management and Research at the Center for Inclusive Business and Leadership (CIBL) for Women at the American University of Beirut. In this pivotal role, she spearheads research initiatives aimed at fostering gender-inclusive policies and initiatives across the MENA region. Her work is instrumental in shaping strategies that promote gender equality and empower women in diverse socio-economic contexts. Dr. Youakim's academic journey is marked by a profound commitment to understanding and addressing gender disparities. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology with a concentration in Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Florida, where she developed a nuanced understanding of the complexities surrounding gender issues. Her research interests are deeply rooted in women studies, gender studies, and gender equality, reflecting her dedication to advancing knowledge and advocacy in these critical areas. Before her current role, Dr. Youakim was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Finlandia University. During her tenure, she contributed significantly to the academic community through her teaching and research. Her scholarly work includes co-editing the book "Arab Worlds Beyond the Middle East and North Africa," which explores the diverse experiences and identities of Arab communities outside the traditional geographic boundaries.
