Clay Shields

Professor Clay Shields is a distinguished academic focusing on interdisciplinary studies in computer and network security at Georgetown University. With a rich background in cyber resilience, computer and network forensics, and tracing the source of network anonymity, his work is pivotal in advancing the understanding of how to protect digital infrastructures from various threats. His research interests also extend to attack attribution and identifying individuals sharing CSAM material, which are critical areas in the realm of cybersecurity. Before joining Georgetown University, Professor Shields served as an assistant professor at Purdue University, where he honed his expertise in computer security and network protocols. His academic journey began with an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, followed by a PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for his future contributions to the field of computer science. At Georgetown, Professor Shields leads the Scholarship for Service Program, a significant initiative that awards $1 million annually to students committed to pursuing careers in government cybersecurity.
