Neal S. Fedarko

Professor at History, Johns Hopkins University0 Followers

Dr. Neal S. Fedarko is passionate about unraveling the complexities of aging, with a particular focus on the dysregulation of signal transduction and cellular differentiation. As a Professor of Medicine in the Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology division at Johns Hopkins Medicine, he has dedicated his career to advancing our understanding of the biological processes that underpin aging and age-related diseases. Dr. Fedarko's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College, followed by a PhD from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. His postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health further honed his expertise in the field, setting the stage for his future contributions to geriatric medicine and research. Since joining the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1992, Dr. Fedarko has been at the forefront of research in aging, making significant strides in the study of cellular mechanisms that contribute to the aging process. In his role as Director of the Clinical Research Core Laboratory at the Institute for Clinical & Translational Research, Dr. Fedarko oversees a wide range of projects aimed at translating basic scientific discoveries into clinical applications. His leadership extends to his position as Co-Director of the Fellowship Training Program in Gerontology and Geriatrics, where he mentors the next generation of researchers and clinicians in the field of aging. Dr. Fedarko is also the Co-Director of the Biology of Healthy Aging Program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he collaborates with colleagues to explore the biological underpinnings of healthy aging. His research interests are deeply rooted in understanding how cellular differentiation and signal transduction pathways are altered with age, and how these changes contribute to the development of age-related diseases. Throughout his career, Dr. Fedarko has been committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in aging research. His work not only contributes to the scientific community but also has practical implications for improving the health and well-being of older adults. Dr. Fedarko's dedication to his field is evident in his numerous publications and his ongoing efforts to advance the science of aging through research, education, and clinical practice.
