Carmen Alvarez

Professor Carmen Alvarez is a distinguished faculty member at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where she integrates diverse disciplines to study and address critical health challenges. With a PhD, RN, CRNP, and CNM, she is deeply committed to advancing the field of gerontological nursing through her innovative research and teaching. Her work primarily focuses on developing and implementing health promotion and risk reduction interventions tailored for underserved ethnic-minority women, particularly those with a history of trauma. Professor Alvarez's research interests are broad and impactful, encompassing trauma-informed care, immigrant health, mental health, and health promotion. She is particularly passionate about improving the psychosocial well-being of immigrant communities, recognizing the unique challenges they face. Her current project, "Improving Psychosocial Well-Being among Immigrant Latina Survivors of ACEs," exemplifies her dedication to creating meaningful change in the lives of vulnerable populations. This project aims to address the adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that many immigrant Latina women endure, seeking to foster resilience and enhance their overall quality of life.
