

Oscar Barbarin
Professor with a passion for advancing studies in social determinants of inequality in education, Dr. Oscar Barbarin serves as the Chair of the African American Studies Department at the University of Maryland, College Park. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University, Dr. Barbarin has an extensive academic background, having previously been a part of the faculties at the Universities of Maryland, Michigan, and North Carolina. His scholarly pursuits are deeply rooted in understanding the social and familial factors that contribute to ethnic and gender achievement gaps, with a particular focus on early childhood. Dr. Barbarin has made significant contributions to the field through his development of a universal mental health screening system designed for children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
