Dr. Patrick/Patricia Killion conducts research on learning analytics and data science in higher education, with a particular focus on reform and decision-making processes. As a faculty member at the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr. Killion serves as the Director of The Office of Undergraduate Research and The First-Year Innovation & Research Experience (FIRE). This role allows them to blend their expertise in education and data science to enhance the academic journey of undergraduate students. Dr. Killion holds a Ph.D. in Cell & Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, which provides a unique interdisciplinary perspective to their work. Their academic background enables them to approach educational challenges with a scientific and analytical mindset, fostering innovation in higher education administration. In 2014, Dr. Killion initiated the FIRE program at the University of Maryland, a groundbreaking initiative designed to immerse first-year students in mentored research experiences.
