Michelle Mentis

Dr. Michelle Mentis is laying the groundwork for future advancements in the field of pediatric language disorders through her multifaceted roles at Boston University's Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. As a Clinical Professor and Chair of the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences, she is at the forefront of shaping the next generation of speech-language pathologists. In her capacity as Program Director for the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program, Dr. Mentis ensures that the curriculum is both rigorous and reflective of the latest research and clinical practices. Dr. Mentis's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981, followed by a Master's degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, completed in 1985 and 1988, respectively. Her educational background laid a strong foundation for her research, which primarily focuses on pediatric language disorders. Her work is particularly centered on language analysis and the development of effective preschool language interventions. Throughout her career, Dr. Mentis has been committed to advancing the understanding of language development in children.
