Dr. Rebecca Cummings is a distinguished Professor of Practice at Auburn University's Harrison College of Pharmacy, where she plays a pivotal role in the Academic Programs unit. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy in 2002. Following her graduation, Dr. Cummings completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, which laid the foundation for her extensive career in pharmacy practice and education. At Harrison College of Pharmacy, Dr. Cummings is actively involved in the innovative Practice Ready Curriculum, where she precepts students and integrates the use of electronic health records to document patient care activities. Her commitment to education and patient care is evident in her approach to teaching, which emphasizes practical, hands-on experience for her students. Dr. Cummings brings a wealth of experience from various practice settings to her role at Auburn. She has served in multiple capacities, including as a consultant pharmacist, Emergency Preparedness pharmacist, and Quality and Administrative Services Manager. Her diverse background also includes roles as a Pharmacy Education Coordinator, Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator, and Residency Coordinator at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown. These positions have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmacy field, which she imparts to her students. From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Cummings was the PGY1 Residency Program Director at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown, where she was instrumental in shaping the residency program and mentoring new pharmacists. Her leadership extended to coordinating Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) for students from various pharmacy schools, providing them with invaluable real-world experience. Dr. Cummings is known for her dedication to advancing pharmacy education and practice.
