Dr. José F. Moreno is a distinguished academic and community leader, serving as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies at California State University, Long Beach. With a robust academic background and a commitment to educational equity, Dr. Moreno's research focuses on Latino/a Education, Educational Access & Equity, Diversity in Higher Education, Pre-College Outreach Programs, Evaluation Methods, and the Social Context of Education. His scholarly work aims to bridge the gap between educational policy and practice, particularly in underserved communities. Dr. Moreno's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. He furthered his studies at Harvard University, where he earned both a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. His academic pursuits have been complemented by a prolific output of publications and presentations at national and international conferences, contributing significantly to the discourse on educational access and diversity. Beyond academia, Dr. Moreno has been actively involved in various advisory roles. He has served on the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME), the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) Making Excellence Inclusive initiative, and the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) Student Success Task Force. These roles underscore his dedication to fostering inclusive educational environments and promoting student success across diverse populations. In addition to his academic and advisory contributions, Dr. Moreno is a prominent figure in local governance. He is an elected City Council member of Anaheim, where he currently serves as Mayor Pro-tem.
