Dr. Sarah Baker advocates for research-driven practices in hydraulic engineering, focusing on innovative solutions for water management. As a Hydraulic Engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation in the Lower Colorado Region, she applies her extensive expertise in hydrology and water resources to address complex challenges in water distribution and conservation. Dr. Baker earned her PhD in Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources and Hydrology from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her doctoral research was pivotal in developing sub-seasonal to seasonal watershed-scale hydroclimate forecast techniques, which are instrumental in enhancing water management strategies. These techniques have significantly contributed to the efficient allocation and use of water resources, particularly in regions facing water scarcity. Before embarking on her doctoral journey, Dr. Baker gained valuable experience as a student research assistant at the Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems (CADSWES). During her time at CADSWES, she was involved in projects that integrated advanced decision support systems with water and environmental management, laying the groundwork for her future research endeavors. Dr. Baker's work is characterized by a commitment to integrating scientific research with practical applications, ensuring that her contributions have a tangible impact on water resource management. Her dedication to advancing the field of hydraulic engineering is evident in her ongoing efforts to develop and implement innovative forecasting techniques that support sustainable water use. In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Baker is actively engaged in the academic community, frequently collaborating with fellow researchers and participating in conferences to share her insights and findings. Her work continues to influence the field of hydrology, inspiring new approaches to managing water resources in an era of increasing environmental challenges.
