John Farnsworth

A leader in transformative education for the next generation of aerospace engineers, John Farnsworth is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. With a passion for advancing the frontiers of aerospace technology, he directs the Experimental Aerodynamics Laboratory, where he spearheads cutting-edge research in experimental fluid dynamics and image-based flow velocimetry. His work is pivotal in understanding complex three-dimensional flow fields and their applications in various aerospace contexts. Professor Farnsworth is also a key member of the Aerospace Mechanics Research Center (AMREC), where his expertise in flow control and unsteady aerodynamics contributes to innovative solutions in the field. His research interests are diverse and include wind turbine aerodynamics and biologically inspired flight, areas where he seeks to harness the principles of nature to improve engineering designs and efficiency. His academic journey began at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned both his Ph.D. and M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering, as well as a B.S. in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering.
