Michele D. Simpson

Michele D. Simpson serves as an Associate Teaching Professor within the Philosophy, Arts & Culture Residential Academic Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her academic journey is marked by a deep commitment to exploring complex societal issues, particularly those related to anti-Blackness, anti-racism, law, and justice. Her teaching approach is characterized by a focus on the intersections of gender, race, sexuality, and popular culture, alongside engaging students in ethical puzzles and moral conflicts. In addition to her teaching role, Simpson is affiliated with several key programs and centers at the university, including the Student Academic Success Center, the Honors RAP, the Program for Excellence in Academics and Community, the Center for African & African American Studies, and the Creative Minds RAP. Her involvement in these programs underscores her dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment for all students. Simpson's contributions extend beyond the classroom through her role as an Affiliate Faculty and Research Associate for the Renée Crown Wellness Institute. Here, she plays a pivotal role in directing the Mindful Campus Program, where she facilitates an 8-week mindfulness course designed for undergraduates. Her leadership in the Girls Like Us program highlights her commitment to addressing the unique experiences and challenges faced by Black girls in Boulder County. Her passion for community engagement is further exemplified by her work as the host and producer of Black Talk, a collaborative initiative between the Boulder County NAACP and Boulder Public Radio's KGNU. Through this platform, Simpson amplifies important conversations around race and justice, contributing to a broader understanding and dialogue within the community. Simpson's multifaceted roles and initiatives reflect her unwavering dedication to promoting equity, justice, and mindfulness both within and beyond the academic sphere.
