Associate Professor at Chemistry, University of South Florida0 Followers

Dr. Ioannis Gelis is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry at the University of South Florida. With a robust academic background, Dr. Gelis has cultivated a profound expertise in the field of structural biology and biomolecular NMR. He embarked on his academic journey by obtaining a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Leeds in the UK, followed by an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Hull, also in the UK. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Structural Biology, a joint degree from the University of Athens in Greece and the University of Florence in Italy. Dr. Gelis's post-doctoral research was marked by significant contributions to the field, first at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA, from 2004 to 2009, and subsequently at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, from 2009 to 2012. During these years, he honed his skills and expanded his research portfolio, focusing on the intricate details of biomolecular structures and their functions. At the University of South Florida, Dr. Gelis is dedicated to advancing the understanding of molecular structures through innovative research methodologies. His work primarily revolves around the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques to unravel the complexities of biomolecules. This research not only contributes to the fundamental understanding of biological processes but also has potential implications in drug discovery and development. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Gelis is actively involved in mentoring students and fostering a collaborative research environment. His commitment to education and research excellence is reflected in his numerous publications and presentations at international conferences. Dr. Gelis continues to inspire the next generation of scientists with his passion for chemistry and structural biology.
