

Daniel Lende
Focused on real-world applications of anthropology, Daniel Lende is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director in the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Florida. His academic journey is marked by a deep commitment to understanding the complexities of human behavior through the lens of neuroanthropology. Dr. Lende's research interests are diverse, encompassing substance use and abuse, behavioral health, stress, journalism and social media, cybersecurity, and public and applied anthropology. His work often bridges the gap between theoretical insights and practical interventions, particularly in the contexts of Colombia and the United States. Dr. Lende is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of anthropologists. He offers courses in biocultural medical anthropology and theory and methods in medical anthropology, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the field. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of integrating biological and cultural perspectives to address complex health issues. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Lende actively supervises graduate students, guiding them through their academic and research endeavors. Currently, he mentors four graduate students: Alana Alexander, Katelynn Carlsen, Melissa Eustache, and John Pendygraft. Under his guidance, these students explore various facets of anthropology, contributing to the field's growing body of knowledge. Dr. Lende's work is characterized by a commitment to applied anthropology, where he seeks to develop interventions that improve behavioral health outcomes.
