Kate Daum
Professor leading studies in the field of nutrition and medicine, Dr. Kate Daum was a distinguished figure at the University of Iowa. As a former Nutrition Director at UI Hospitals and a respected professor at the College of Medicine, Dr. Daum made significant contributions to the academic community. Dr. Daum's legacy is honored through Daum Hall, a building named after her, which was constructed in 1964 as a women's residence hall. Despite facing potential closure in 1991 due to various challenges, the building remained operational, reflecting the growing demand for student housing. Today, Daum Hall accommodates 293 coed honors students, providing them with a vibrant living environment that fosters academic excellence. The hall's strategic location offers students convenient access to the Blank Honors Center and Burge dining facilities, connected through an underground tunnel. This unique feature enhances the living experience for residents, allowing them to easily engage with the broader university community. Dr. Daum's influence continues to be felt through the students who reside in the hall that bears her name, as they pursue their own academic and professional aspirations.
