Professor with a deep interest in sustainability and engineering, Brian Thorn is an esteemed member of the adjunct faculty at the Kate Gleason College of Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). With a robust academic background, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from RIT, followed by a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech. His educational journey has equipped him with a profound understanding of the complexities involved in industrial systems and their impact on the environment. Professor Thorn's research is primarily centered on the integration of sustainability principles into technical challenges, with a particular focus on sustainable product and process design, life cycle assessment, and the application of statistical methods. His work aims to bridge the gap between engineering practices and environmental stewardship, ensuring that industrial processes are not only efficient but also environmentally responsible. As an active member of several professional organizations, including the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, and Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW), Dr. Thorn is committed to advancing the field of sustainable engineering. His involvement in these organizations reflects his dedication to fostering a community of engineers who prioritize sustainability in their work. At RIT, Professor Thorn plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of engineers.
