A strategic thinker in the application of international development and human rights, Professor Gassama is a distinguished member of the Political Science faculty at the University of Oregon. With a rich background in foreign policy and international development, he brings a wealth of experience and insight to his academic pursuits. Before joining the University of Oregon, Professor Gassama was actively involved with TransAfrica, where he played a pivotal role in organizing Nelson Mandela's inaugural visit to the United States and contributed to the historic 1994 democratic elections in South Africa. Professor Gassama's research interests are deeply rooted in the complex interplay between human rights, environmental degradation, and economic development. His work seeks to unravel the intricate connections between these fields, aiming to foster a more equitable and sustainable global society. His expertise in tort law further complements his research, providing a legal framework to address and remedy injustices arising from environmental and economic challenges.
