

Guo Freeman
Dr. Guo Freeman is a distinguished Dean's Associate Professor and the Director of the Gaming and Mediated Experience Lab (CUGAME) within the Human-Centered Computing Division at the School of Computing, Clemson University. Her academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Information Science, focusing on Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), from Indiana University-Bloomington. Prior to her tenure at Clemson, she served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati's School of Information Technology, where she was instrumental in directing the game development and simulation tracks for both the Master of Science and Bachelor of Science programs in Information Technology. Dr. Freeman's research is at the forefront of understanding the impact of interactive technologies on interpersonal relationships and group dynamics. Her work is organized around three interlinked research themes in HCI: social computing, games and play, and social VR. These themes explore the intricate ways in which technology influences social interactions and community building in digital spaces. In addition to her research, Dr. Freeman is an active member of the ACM SIGCHI community, where she has held several key leadership positions. She has served as the General Chair for ACM CHI PLAY 2024 and ACM GROUP 2025, and as the Papers Chair for ACM CHI PLAY in both 2022 and 2023. Her leadership roles reflect her commitment to advancing the field of human-computer interaction and fostering collaborative environments for scholarly exchange. Dr. Freeman's contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous publications and presentations at international conferences. Her work not only advances academic understanding but also informs the design and development of more inclusive and engaging interactive systems.
