Melinda Coogan

Dr. Melinda Coogan is a dedicated Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University, where she has been imparting knowledge and inspiring students since 2018. Prior to her tenure at Baylor, Dr. Coogan was a Professor of Biology at Buena Vista University in Iowa, where she honed her teaching skills and developed a passion for environmental education. Her academic journey is marked by a robust educational background, having earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of North Texas, an M.S. in Biology from Western Illinois University, and a B.S. in Biology from East Carolina University. At Baylor, Dr. Coogan is known for her engaging lecture and field-based courses that challenge students to think critically about environmental issues. She is deeply committed to student mentorship, guiding Honors and McNair Scholar students through their academic and research endeavors. Her role as Faculty Sponsor for the student organization, Students for Environmental and Wildlife Protection (SEWP), underscores her dedication to fostering a community of environmentally conscious students. Dr. Coogan's professional affiliations reflect her active engagement in the scientific community. She is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the Society of Wetland Scientists, and the Iowa Academy of Science.
