

Brian Thomas
Professor at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Brian Thomas has been a dedicated Senior Lecturer in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Baylor University since 2001. With a strong foundation in both Electrical Engineering and Physics, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. Before joining academia, Thomas gained valuable industry experience as an engineer, which he now leverages to enhance his teaching and mentorship. Since 2016, Professor Thomas has served as the Faculty Steward for Teal Residential College, where he plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and supportive community for students. His leadership extends beyond the classroom, as he actively engages students in service-learning opportunities through the Humanitarian Engineering concentration. Since 2005, he has led student teams on impactful trips to Kenya, Honduras, and Haiti, where they apply their engineering skills to address real-world challenges. In addition to his teaching and leadership roles, Professor Thomas is a passionate advocate for student involvement in extracurricular activities. He sponsors Engineers with a Mission, a student organization dedicated to using engineering skills for humanitarian purposes. Furthermore, he directs the Justice and Mercy Engineering Society (JAMES), which focuses on integrating engineering with social justice initiatives. Professor Thomas's commitment to education and service is complemented by his personal life, where he shares a home in Teal Residential College with his wife, Martha, and their son, Jonathan. His dedication to both his family and his students exemplifies his holistic approach to education, making him a respected and beloved figure within the Baylor University community.
