Blending theory and practice to improve our understanding of neurological disorders, Dr. Briana DeMiranda is an esteemed Assistant Professor in Neurology at the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. With a keen focus on toxicology and Chronic Non-traumatic Encephalopathy (CNET), Dr. DeMiranda is dedicated to advancing research in these critical areas. Dr. DeMiranda's academic journey began at Colorado State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences in 2008. Her passion for understanding the intricate mechanisms of the human body led her to pursue a Ph.D. in Toxicology, which she completed in 2014 at the same institution. Her doctoral research laid the foundation for her future endeavors in the field of neurology. Following her Ph.D., Dr. DeMiranda honed her expertise during a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. This experience allowed her to delve deeper into the complexities of neurological disorders, particularly focusing on the impact of toxic substances on brain health. Her work during this period was instrumental in shaping her research trajectory and establishing her as a thought leader in the field. At UAB, Dr. DeMiranda is actively involved in both teaching and research. She is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and critical thinking. Her research projects often explore the intersection of toxicology and neurology, aiming to uncover new insights into the prevention and treatment of neurological disorders. Dr. DeMiranda's contributions to the field have been recognized through various publications and presentations at national and international conferences. Her work continues to inspire and influence her peers, as she strives to make a meaningful impact on the understanding and management of neurological conditions.
