

Valerie Eubanks Tarn
Professor Valerie Eubanks Tarn is an esteemed educator and researcher focused on innovative teaching methods in the realm of pediatric pulmonary and nutrition sciences. As an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students and colleagues. Additionally, she serves as a secondary Instructor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, where she integrates her expertise in clinical nutrition with her passion for improving health outcomes. Professor Tarn holds a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from UAB, complementing her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Montevallo. Her academic journey has been marked by a commitment to advancing the field of nutrition, particularly in the context of pediatric pulmonary diseases and cystic fibrosis (CF)-related diabetes. With over 25 years of dedicated service at Children's Hospital/UAB, she has made significant contributions as a nutritionist for the pulmonary division and as a research coordinator for the Cystic Fibrosis Research Center. In her current role as Nutrition Faculty and Training Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary Center, Professor Tarn is deeply involved in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing nutrition outcomes for children with pulmonary conditions. Her research interests are centered on developing strategies that address the unique nutritional needs of pediatric patients, particularly those with CF-related diabetes.
