Andrew Butler

Bringing clarity to complex systems in the realm of neuro-rehabilitation, Dr. Andrew Butler serves as the Dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) since 2019. With a distinguished academic background, Dr. Butler earned his Ph.D. in motor control from the University of Iowa, which laid the foundation for his extensive career in both research and academia. Dr. Butler's professional journey includes notable positions at Georgia State University, Emory University School of Medicine, Texas Women's University, and Heinrich-Heine University in Germany. His diverse experiences across these institutions have enriched his expertise and contributed significantly to his leadership role at UAB. His research interests are centered around neuro-rehabilitation, functional neuroimaging, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. As the director of the Clinical Neuroplasticity Lab at Georgia State University, Dr. Butler has been at the forefront of pioneering research that seeks to enhance our understanding of brain plasticity and its implications for rehabilitation. Currently, Dr. Butler is actively involved in a groundbreaking project that explores the use of rehabilitation robots in veterans' homes.
