Joseph Timothy Foley
Professor Joseph Timothy Foley is a distinguished academic with significant achievements in the fields of infrastructure, mechatronics, and unmanned vehicle systems. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Engineering University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. Professor Foley earned his PhD in Auto-ID Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he also completed postdoctoral research. During his postdoctoral tenure at MIT and SKF, Professor Foley focused on advancing manufacturing processes and the development of shape memory alloy actuators. His work in these areas has contributed to significant advancements in the field, particularly in the application of smart materials in engineering solutions. Professor Foley is actively involved in the RAVEN project, where he provides engineering support and applies his expertise in VTOL drone research. His contributions to this project highlight his commitment to advancing unmanned systems and their applications in modern engineering challenges. In addition to his research, Professor Foley is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of engineers. His courses often integrate practical applications with theoretical knowledge, preparing students to tackle complex engineering problems.
