Yana Zavros
Yana Zavros enriches the academic discourse on cellular and molecular medicine as a Professor at the University of Arizona. She serves as the Associate Head of Research and is the director of the Tissue Acquisition and Cellular/Molecular Analysis Shared Resource. Zavros's academic journey began with a B.Sc. from the University of Melbourne, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where she honed her expertise in microbiology and immunology. Her research is at the forefront of understanding the complex mechanisms that drive gastric epithelial regeneration and the pathogenesis of Helicobacter pylori-induced diseases. Zavros employs innovative in vitro and in vivo organoid systems to unravel these biological processes. Her work is pivotal in advancing knowledge about gastric cancer, contributing significantly to the field through her exploration of organoid biology. In addition to her focus on gastric diseases, Zavros's lab is pioneering the development of patient-derived gastric and pancreatic cancer organoids. These organoids are instrumental in predicting individual therapy responses, offering a personalized approach to cancer treatment. Her research not only enhances the understanding of cancer biology but also holds promise for improving therapeutic strategies. Zavros's contributions to the field are marked by her commitment to integrating cutting-edge research with practical applications. Her work continues to inspire and guide future research directions in microbiology and immunology, particularly in the context of cancer and infectious diseases.
