Maria M Santos

Professor innovating in the area of mental health, Maria M. Santos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at California State University-San Bernardino. With a robust academic background, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and later pursued her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her academic journey has been marked by a deep commitment to understanding and improving mental health services for underserved populations. Professor Santos's research is primarily focused on enhancing mental health outcomes for Latinos, with a particular emphasis on depression and first-episode psychosis. Her work is driven by the pressing need to address mental health disparities within this community, aiming to develop culturally sensitive interventions that can be effectively implemented in real-world settings. Her dedication to this cause is evident in her current research, which investigates the effectiveness of Behavioral Activation (BA) as a therapeutic intervention for Latinos experiencing first-episode psychosis.
