

Kristy Brugar

As a Professor and Department Chair of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role. Dr. Brugar's academic journey began with her Ph.D. from Michigan State University, which laid the foundation for her distinguished career in education. Before joining the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Brugar honed her expertise as a middle school social studies teacher, where she developed a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities within classroom settings. Her experience as an assistant professor at Wayne State University further enriched her perspective, allowing her to contribute significantly to the field of social studies education. Dr. Brugar's research is characterized by its innovative approach to integrating various disciplines within educational frameworks, aiming to enhance both teaching practices and student learning outcomes. Her work has not gone unnoticed, as she has been the recipient of several prestigious awards. These accolades include the OU Jeanine Rainbolt College of Education Junior Faculty Award, the National Council for the Social Studies Early Career Award, and the OU Robert L. and Nan A. Huddleston Presidential Professor of Education.
