Laura Backstrom

Bridging the gap between disciplines to tackle complex social phenomena, Laura Backstrom is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Florida Atlantic University. Since joining the faculty in 2016, she has been instrumental in shaping the department's academic landscape. Laura earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University, where she honed her expertise in social issues, culture, gender, and childhood—areas that remain central to her research and teaching endeavors. Laura's pedagogical approach is deeply intertwined with her research interests, as she teaches courses such as Self and Society, Youth and Society, and Sociology of the Body.
