

Julie D. Lawton
A champion for advancing diversity in legal education, Julie D. Lawton is a full-time Professor of Law at DePaul University. Since joining the faculty in 2011, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the university's legal programs and has held various leadership positions. Prior to her tenure at DePaul, Professor Lawton honed her teaching skills at Georgetown University Law Center, where she also completed her LLM. Her academic journey began with a JD from Howard University School of Law, following a BS in Business Administration from Florida A&M University. Professor Lawton's professional background is as diverse as her academic pursuits. Before transitioning into academia, she gained substantial experience as a financial analyst and attorney, specializing in real estate development and financial services. This practical experience has greatly informed her teaching and research, allowing her to bring real-world insights into the classroom. Her research interests are deeply rooted in the fields of affordable housing, clinical legal education, debt financing, and real estate.
