Vanessa Lovelace

Dr. Vanessa Lovelace is well-respected in the academic community for her interdisciplinary approach to Crime and Justice Studies. As an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her students, drawing from her extensive educational background. Dr. Lovelace earned her PhD in Political Science with a focus on Feminist Studies from the University of Connecticut, complemented by an MA in Political Science and a BA in Legal Studies from the University of California-Santa Cruz. In her teaching, Dr. Lovelace covers a diverse range of subjects, including Crime and Justice Studies, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Black Studies, Political Theory, and Law and Society. Her courses are known for their critical engagement with complex social issues, encouraging students to think deeply about the intersections of race, gender, and justice. Dr. Lovelace's research interests are centered around Black Geographies, Critical Race Theory, Postcolonial and Transnational Black Feminism, and Transnational Justice. Her work often explores the spatial dimensions of race and gender, examining how these factors influence social and political landscapes. She is particularly interested in how transnational perspectives can inform understandings of justice and equity.
