Andy Shores

Dr. Andy Shores has a longstanding interest in the field of veterinary neurosurgery, where he has made significant contributions over the past three and a half decades. Currently, he serves as a Clinical Professor and Chief of Neurosurgery and Neurology at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. His extensive experience and dedication to the field have earned him the distinction of being a Diplomate in the Specialty of Neurology with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, as well as a Certificate of Training in Veterinary Neurosurgery. Dr. Shores began his academic journey at Auburn University, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. His pursuit of advanced knowledge led him to Purdue University, where he obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Medicine in 1982. He then returned to Auburn University to complete his Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy in 1985, further solidifying his expertise and commitment to veterinary medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Shores has focused his research on several critical areas within neurosurgery. His interests include intracranial surgery, traumatic brain injury, and spinal fixation. These areas are pivotal in advancing the understanding and treatment of neurological conditions in animals, and Dr. Shores' work has been instrumental in developing new surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes. In addition to his research, Dr. Shores is deeply committed to education and mentorship. He has been involved in training the next generation of veterinary neurosurgeons, sharing his knowledge and expertise with students and colleagues alike. His passion for teaching and his ability to inspire others have made him a respected figure in the academic community. Dr. Shores' contributions to veterinary neurosurgery extend beyond the classroom and laboratory.
