Mackenzie Savaiano

Dr. Mackenzie Savaiano is an esteemed Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. In her role, she coordinates the graduate program in Visual Impairments, where she is dedicated to advancing the field through both teaching and research. Dr. Savaiano's academic journey is marked by a Ph.D. in Special Education: Visual Disabilities from Vanderbilt University, completed in 2014. Prior to this, she earned a Master of Education in Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired from CUNY Hunter College in 2009, and a Bachelor of Science in Teaching English for grades 7-12 from New York University in 2006. Her research interests are deeply rooted in braille literacy, a field in which she has made significant contributions. Dr. Savaiano's work is driven by a passion for improving educational outcomes for individuals with visual impairments, and she is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
